The first issue set the pattern the journal has kept: worked method, sourced data, and at least one article willing to disagree with received opinion.
What it contained
Eight articles, each the work of its contributor, whose name appears on the article itself. In outline:
- Three seventeenth-century authorities applied to a modern election, and judged against the result.
- The first part of a study of temperament as a calculation rather than an impression.
- A reassessment of the house systems and of the modern commonplaces about them.
- An argument about why astrology and the sciences talk past one another.
- An account of the passage from contemporary to traditional practice, by someone who made it.
- Signatures, and the doctrine of correspondence they rest on.
- A worked nativity: a seventeenth-century queen, and the question of children.
- A biographical study of an English astrologer of the period, from the documents.
The study of temperament is continued in the second issue and remains the fullest English account of the calculation; our own note on temperament follows its method.
