Subscriptions and what they fund

the Tradition is a small journal. Subscription income covers production, the work of preparing and editing translations, and the cost of keeping the back issues available.

The earlier arrangement

During the journal's first run, its editors directed subscription income to an animal welfare association in the Algarve. That arrangement belonged to those editors and ended with their tenure; we mention it because this page has carried links for years and readers arriving here should not be left with an outdated commitment presented as current.

Now

Subscription income goes to the journal itself — to production, to editorial work, and above all to translation. Making a primary source available in English is slow work that nobody funds, and it is the main thing a subscription pays for.
